Navajo Nation EPA

Research revealed the challenge: limited resources, remote areas and historical practice were shaping environmentally harmful garbage disposal among Navajo Nation communities. Waste breakdown no longer a given with modern trash, the Navajo Nation EPA's goal was to minimize illegal open dumping and trash burning by appealing to Navajo values. The solution was tapping the rich Navajo culture with an appeal to waste disposal at local transfer stations. The visuals and message tap Navajo land, philosophy, and deep spiritual connection to the Diné Bizaad language. Hózhó is an important concept that embodies living in harmony with nature, adaptability, and balancing tradition with progress. These themes are captured by visuals of natural beauty, ancestral wisdom and honoring mother earth.

Vertical and Horizontal Banners

With a modest budget and the need for authentic Navajo visuals, these designs lean into AI to bring the message to life. AI stock and AI image enhancements create a warm mother earth figure to bring sensitivity and respect to inspiring behavior change. Habits are hard to break, so leaning into Navajo philosophy, cultural preservation, and personal responsibility suggests an updated narrative for waste disposal that deters open dumping.

A 33.5" x 79.5" double-sided vertical banner and overhead 92.125" x 33" horizontal banner are designed to complement each other at Navajo Nation EPA outreach events and booth exhibits.
