Research revealed the challenge: limited resources, remote areas and historical practice shaping environmentally harmful garbage disposal among Navajo Nation communities. With organic breakdown no longer a given with modern trash, the Navajo Nation EPA's goal is to minimize illegal open dumping and trash burning of modern toxic and non-biodegradable waste. Preserving Navajo culture, and living in traditional hogans and homesteads can coexist with waste drop off at today's transfer stations. The solution: rich imagery to capture Navajo identity and philosophy, and the community's deep spiritual connection to the Diné Bizaad language. Hózhó is an important concept for the Navajo. It embodies living in harmony with nature, adaptability, and balancing tradition with progress. These themes are captured by visuals of natural beauty, ancestral wisdom and honoring mother earth.
